Words are a smokescreen in the face of national impotence

Not for the first time, I wrestle with writing anything here on the day of a school shooting.

Tragedy takes its toll every minute of the day somewhere in this country (for that matter, this world). However, the school shootings in the U.S. are so galling, so bleak, so incomprehensibly awful, so beyond words, that words fail. They truly fail.
